Welcome School of Letters Alumni! Join us November 8 in Sewanee for a Gathering of Letters with alumni and current students!

We are excited to announce the School of Letters Gathering on November 8, 2014, in Sewanee! Please join us for Gathering of Letters students and alumni on the Mountain during Sewanee's Homecoming Weekend. Email us at to reserve your space. We are charging a small fee to cover catering costs. 

Scheduled Events

9:30 am Breakfast at Rivendell – Meet up with friends for breakfast at Rivendell Writers’ Colony. Dr. Grammer will be there to greet you! 

4:30 pm All Alumni BBQ – Alumni Tent next to McGriff Alumni House. Enjoy an afternoon BBQ with college and School of Letters alums and students. 

7:00 pm Concert with acclaimed fiddler and songwriter Amanda Shires – McCrory Auditorium on the campus of St. Andrew’s - Sewanee School. 


Beds and Rooms are available Friday and Saturday nights at Rivendell Writers’ Colony for $80/night. Email Carmen Thompson for reservations:

There is a $20 registration fee for the day's events. Please rsvp by email so that we can have an accurate count for breakfast and the BBQ, and so we can reserve tickets for you and your guests to the Amanda Shires concert.

Amanda Shires, a poetry student in the School of Letters working on her thesis, is an acclaimed fiddler and songwriter. Her album Carrying Lightning was released in 2011, followed by Down Fell The Doves in 2013. Born in Texas, Amanda now makes her home in Nashville.
