We have an upcoming School of Letters event in Nashville on Tuesday, February 19, at 7 pm at Rumours East. We're sponsoring an evening of East Side Storytellin' with acclaimed author Kevin Wilson and award-winning musician and MFA candidate Amanda Shires. We'll be there with Letters student Chuck Beard of East Side Story who will host the event and WAMB radio who will be recording a podcast. We'd love to see you there but space is limited so call Rumours East at 615.262.5346 for a seat!
John Grammer and April Alvarez will attend the AWP conference in Boston March 6 - 9. Let us know if you'll be there!
A few things are on the horizon in Sewanee:
The Sewanee Review will present the Aiken Taylor Awards in Modern American Poetry March 19 - March 21, 2013, in Sewanee. This year's award winners are poets WIlliam Logan and Debora Greger. David Yezzi will give a lecture on the work of William Logan on Tuesday afternoon. And on Wednesday, William Logan will give a reading. Emily Grosholz will lecture on the work of Debora Greger on Thursday afternoon, followed that evening by Greger's reading and the actual presentation of the award to both poets. These events will be open to the public.
The Haines Lecture sponsored by Sewanee's English Department will be given by novelist and poet Jay Parini on Tuesday, April 2, at 4:30 pm in Convocation Hall.
Sewanee's Perimeter Trail Weekend is April 19 - 20. Let me know if a group of you are interested - it would be a great way to hike Sewanee's trails in case you didn't have time when you were in classes!
Finally, dates for our 2013 School of Letters session are June 9 - July 19. There will be an opening dinner on June 9 - so let us know if you'll be in Sewanee and would like to attend. We'd love to see you!
