10 am, Commencement
We look forward to sharing this beautiful weekend with you, your classmates, and your families - and to celebrating your great success! Congratulations! You will receive detailed information by email, but please take a look at the general information posted below.
Please check with John Grammer if you have any questions about your academic requirements for graduation. If you and your family are planning to stay in Sewanee, you should book a hotel/house now. There is a list at http://parents.sewanee.edu/stay. You may also find accommodation rentals on the Alumni page.
Upon arrival in Sewanee you will need to pick up commencement tickets for All Saints' Chapel and McClurg Hall for your guests. These will be at McGriff Alumni House through Saturday afternoon during their Commencement Desk Hours. If you have requested to borrow a gown, it will be there with your name attached. You will not pick up your hood at this time. Be sure and tell the attendants that you are with the School of Letters. If you do not pick up your tickets and gown by Saturday, you will need to pick them up at Gailor 15 between 8:30 - 9 am on Sunday before Commencement.
You are invited to attend Saturday's Baccalaureate Service at 10 am and to process with your class, meeting them at 9:30 am. Dr. Wayne W. Anderson, Florence A. Davis, Anthony C. Gooch, C’59, and Jonathan Green will receive honorary degrees during the May 10 Baccalaureate ceremony. Davis will give the Baccalaureate address. Immediately following the Baccalaureate Service Saturday there will be a short rehearsal for Letters graduates. Please meet on the chancel steps. Also, there will be a graduation party on Saturday evening, at Professor Lauryl Tucker's house in Wiggins Creek. You and your guests are invited.
Commencement will be at 10 am on Sunday, May 11, at All Saints' Chapel. You will convene at 9:30 am along the arcade outside Convocation Hall, or inside if it is raining. The School of Letters follows the faculty in the procession. There will be a reception for School of Letters graduates and their friends and families following the Commencement Service at 1 pm at McGriff Alumni House.
We are looking forward to seeing you on the mountain.
