Baccalaureate Service, Commencement Service and Conferring of Degrees:

DETAILED SCHEDULE, posted (4/18)

BACCALAUREATE SERVICE

SATURDAY, MAY 12 (OPTIONAL)

Your best bet for parking may be at Gailor.

9:15 am Lineup, Breslin Tower (Optional but if you are in town please attend. Rehearsal follows.) Gowns are worn for Baccalaureate, which means you’ll need to pick them up beforehand at the Commencement Desk at McGriff Alumni House. Line up at Breslin Tower to enter All Saints’ Chapel for the Baccalaureate Service. Breslin is the building with the bell tower that, from University Avenue with All Saints in front, would be on the left side of the Quad. You will see a line with School of Letters towards the front, after faculty but ahead of college students.

10:00 am Baccalaureate Service, All Saints’ Chapel.

Tickets are not needed for this service, but your guests may wish to arrive around 9:00 am to get good seats. Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of State from 2005 to 2009 and a professor at Stanford University, will receive an honorary degree and will give the Baccalaureate address during the service.

You will process behind faculty and in front of undergraduate students. Chairs are marked for us in the very front row.

No backpacks or large purses are allowed inside All Saints' Chapel.

Additional seating for family members and guests will be provided in the quadrangle.  In addition, Guerry Auditorium will be available for overflow seating and provides plenty of comfortable theater style seating with excellent viewing on oversized screen.  Tickets are not required for this venue.

Rehearsal: Immediately following the service, there will be a rehearsal. It is very helpful, so if you can be in Sewanee on Saturday, please make plans to attend. Meet OUTSIDE THE CHAPEL ON THE QUAD near the stage. Look for me or Professor Macfie.

There is a Baccalaureate Brunch in McClurg if you wish to eat lunch there after rehearsal. You may purchase tickets at the door.

COMMENCEMENT AND CONFERRAL OF DEGREES

SUNDAY, MAY 13

Again, best bet for parking will be at Gailor. Degrees and academic hoods are conferred at this service. You will receive your degree in alphabetical order, by degree. Students in absentia will not be called.

10:00 am Commencement Service, All Saints’ Chapel and Quad

9:15 am Arrival The graduates will need to arrive to All Saints’ Chapel by 9:15 am and enter through the War Memorial Chapel door (McClurg side) to receive seating assignments. Only graduates will be allowed in All Saints’ Chapel. All other guests will be seating in the quadrangle or in overflow seating in Guerry Auditorium.

Each graduate of the University receives two (2) guest tickets for priority seating in the quadrangle outside of All Saints’ Chapel. Tickets will not be required for the general admission seating in the quadrangle (only the priority seating) and there is no limit to the number of guests a graduate can have.

During the Commencement Service, guests will watch and hear a portion of the service on jumbo monitors from their seats in the quadrangle and be able to watch the conferring of degrees portion take place outside All Saints’ Chapel in the quadrangle.

Additional seating for family members and guests will be provided at Guerry Auditorium. This venue provides plenty of comfortable theater style seating with excellent viewing on oversized screen. Tickets are not required for these venues.
