Our MA curriculum is designed to challenge our students while providing an expansive literary education. We are no longer accepting applications for the MA program.
ten courses
Over the course of four or five summers, our students complete 30 semester hours, or 10 course credits, across several disciplines. All students will take at least eight courses, normally enrolling in two courses per semester.
two courses in British Literature
Our students are expected to take at least two courses in British literature. One course must be in Shakespeare.
two courses in American literature
Our students are expected to take at least two courses in American literature. One course must be in literature written before 1900.
four course electives
Students are able to take four courses of their choosing. MA students have the option of enrolling in up to two writing workshops.
thesis project
Following their final summer of coursework, MA students have the option of completing a thesis project or enrolling in two additional courses. MA students who choose the thesis option work closely with an advisor to complete and defend their project.
